ABSTRACT: Variable displacement piston pumps are crucial in modern aviation hydraulic systems, providing precise and efficient fluid power management. These pumps adjust their displacement according to system demands, optimizing energy consumption and reducing heat generation. They operate using an axial or radial piston mechanism, with a swash plate or cam arrangement controlling the stroke length of the pistons. This adjustability allows for improved performance, reduced weight, and enhanced reliability compared to fixed displacement pumps.
These pumps are also essential for hydraulic actuation in flight control systems, landing gear, braking, and thrust reversers. Their ability to maintain consistent pressure while varying flow rates contributes to operational efficiency and fuel savings.
