Abstract: Induction motors are widely used in electric vehicle applications due to robustness, low cost, and low maintenance. However, conventional PID-based speed control results in higher starting currents, slower dynamic response, and reduced efficiency under varying load conditions. This paper proposes a Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) for power optimization of an induction motor drive in EV applications. The FLC uses linguistic rules and membership functions instead of exact mathematical models. The system is modeled in MATLAB/Simulink and performance is compared with conventional PID. Simulation results demonstrate that the FLC provides 28% reduced overshoot, 35% faster settling time, 15% improved efficiency under partial loads, and smoother torque profile compared to PID, making it suitable for efficient EV drivetrain operation.
