ABSTRACT - This paper presents the design and development of a smart plant monitoring and automated irrigation system using the ESP32 microcontroller. The objective of the proposed system is to provide an efficient and reliable solution for monitoring environmental conditions and automating irrigation to support healthy plant growth. The system continuously observes key parameters such as soil moisture, ambient temperature, and relative humidity using appropriate sensors.
The collected data is processed by the controller to determine the water requirement of the plant. Whenever the soil moisture level drops below a predefined threshold, the system automatically activates a water pump through a motor driver, ensuring timely irrigation. Once the desired moisture level is restored, the system deactivates the pump to prevent excessive watering and conserve water resources.
In addition to automation, the system incorporates wireless communication capabilities using the ESP32 module. A web- based interface is developed to provide real-time access to sensor data, enabling users to monitor plant conditions remotely through a mobile device. The system also provides a basic estimation of root growth conditions based on soil moisture trends. The proposed solution is economical, easy to implement, and suitable for applications in home gardening and small-scale agricultural environments.
