Abstract— The growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its embedding in smart devices, voice interfaces, IoT ecosystems, as well as large language models (LLMs) has resulted in the rise of AI-based Personal Life Assistant (PLA) that represents an intelligent agent aimed at assisting its user in handling daily life tasks ranging from schedule management to home automation and wellness monitoring, including decision supporting. We provide a review of existing PLA solutions by considering their architectures, capabilities, and use cases in light of recent advances in AI research. E u r s further explores key benefits and challenges, including issues related to t rust, privacy, autonomy of users and context-aware considerations that affect the adoption and effectiveness of PLAs. To this end, a novel conceptual model for the future generation of PLAs is introduced, focused on responsible AI design and adaptive intelligence. The paper finishes by reflecting on future avenues of research and suggesting strategies for the successful and ethical application of PLAs in a variety of individual and societal settings.
