ABSTRACT:
Auniati Satra, a revered cultural institution in Majuli district of Assam, has a vast collection of manuscripts of significant historical and cultural value. These manuscripts are storehouses of knowledge. These manuscripts provide insights into the cultural, historical and literary heritage of Assam. However, the preservation of these manuscripts is a challenging task, and the satra faces several obstacles in protecting these valuable resources. This study explores the preservation of the Auniati Satra manuscripts and highlights the challenges and importance of these manuscripts for understanding Assamese culture and history. The findings of this study provide valuable insights into manuscript preservation and highlight the need for collaborative efforts to ensure the long-term preservation of these valuable resources. The purpose of this study is to examine the current status of manuscript preservation at Auniati Satra, identify the challenges faced in manuscript preservation, and explore the significance of manuscripts for understanding Assamese culture and history. This study uses a mixed methods approach combining qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods. This study highlights the challenges faced by Auniati Satra in preserving manuscripts including environmental factors, lack of resources, and awareness. The importance of digital preservation in the protection of manuscripts was also highlighted. The results of this study provide valuable insights into the preservation of manuscripts and highlight the need for collaborative efforts to ensure the long-term preservation of these valuable resources. This study will also have implications for the preservation of manuscripts in Auniati Satra and other cultural institutions. This study also highlights the need for a comprehensive approach to manuscript preservation, including preservation, digitization and preservation.
