Abstract
The current advancement in artificial intelligence and computer vision technologies has made a significant impact on the evolution of the modern fitness application. FitMate 2.0, the new web- based fitness system described in this paper, is an improvement of the already existing FitMate system, which was named FitMate. The initial system did not have a major goal except to detect real-time postures and to count repetitions by use of MediaPipe Pose and frontend systems. Although useful in exercise form monitoring, it was not personalized and interactive. In order to overcome these shortcomings, FitMate 2.0 has added new functionalities to it like an AI- powered chatbot (FitChat), is user profile management, Body Mass Index (BMI) calculator, and wider range of exercises such as lunges, shoulder press, plank, leg raises. The system is a compromise of computer-vision and intelligent human interaction to deliver a more interactive and personalized fitness experience. The solution proposed is fully client-side based and thus low in latency, privacy and accessibility. It has been experimentally observed that it results in better user engagement, increased exercise coverage and usability. The system illustrates the possibilities of endowing AI-based posture recognition with individualized support to develop a scalable virtual fitness trainer.
