Abstract— Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force reshaping labor markets worldwide. In India, where demographic advantage coexists with significant skill heterogeneity, AI adoption presents both opportunities for productivity enhancement and challenges related to job displacement. This paper examines the impact of AI on employability in India through a descriptive–analytical approach, drawing on primary survey insights and extensive secondary literature. The study analyzes sector-wise employment effects, emerging skill requirements, and the widening AI skill gap. Findings suggest that while routine and entry-level roles are increasingly vulnerable to automation, AI simultaneously creates new high-skilled and hybrid roles, particularly in IT/ITES, BFSI, healthcare, and digital services. The paper concludes that employability outcomes in India will largely depend on reskilling, education reform, and supportive public policy. Recommendations are offered for government, industry, and academic institutions to ensure inclusive and sustainable AI-driven employment growth.
