Abstract - OptiBlink is a low-cost visible light communication system designed for secure and silent short-range message transmission, addressing limitations of traditional wireless communication in environments where radio frequency signals are restricted, insecure, or prone to interference. The system uses an LED as a transmitter and a light-dependent resistor (LDR) as a receiver to enable optical data exchange. Text messages are encoded into timing-based binary light pulses using an ATmega328 microcontroller, and the receiver detects variations in light intensity to decode the transmitted information in real time. To improve reliability under varying ambient light conditions, an adaptive signal detection approach along with a simple timing-based error reduction technique is implemented. The system is tested under practical conditions and achieves a stable communication range of up to 2 meters with an average transmission speed of approximately one character per second, an error rate below 5%, and a response time of less than 200 milliseconds, demonstrating that the proposed system is an efficient, energy-saving, and secure solution for short-range optical communication.
