Abstract

:This study investigates the impact of training and development on employee performance, using Subam Papers Limited, Tirunelveli, as a case study. Training and development are critical functions of Human Resource Management aimed at enhancing employee skills, behavior, and expertise, ultimately improving organizational productivity. The research addresses the problem of high labour turnover and the unclear relationship between training initiatives and employee retention. The primary objectives were to understand employee perceptions of training methods, assess the effectiveness of training programs, evaluate employee satisfaction levels, and identify future training needs. A descriptive research design was adopted, utilizing primary data collected through an interview schedule from a convenience sample of 150 respondents. Tools for analysis included percentage analysis, chi-square tests, correlation, and ANOVA. Key findings reveal that the majority of employees are male (62.0%), single (53.3%), aged 21-30 years (34.7%), and hold SSLC as their highest qualification (31.3%). Training is primarily conducted quarterly (30.0%) using on-the-job methods (61.3%), with step-by-step training being the most common technique (42.7%). A significant positive correlation was found between monthly income and employee preference for training programs. Furthermore, ANOVA results rejected the null hypothesis, confirming a significant relationship between employee experience and the training method used. Most employees agreed that training sessions improved productivity (45.3%) and enterprise effectiveness (36.0%), while 30.0% agreed that training and development helped reduce employee turnover. The study concludes that effective training and development practices are essential for enhancing employee performance, reducing wastage, and fostering organizational growth.
