Interactive Data Visualization Dashboard for IPL 2023 Season Using Tableau

ABSTRACT

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the world's most data-intensive professional cricket tournaments, generating rich structured data across team performance, match outcomes, toss decisions, and player impact metrics. This paper presents an interactive Tableau dashboard developed to visualize and analyze IPL match data from the 2023 season. The dashboard consolidates five visualization types—including bar charts for win counts and win-type distribution, toss impact analysis, a ranked win chart, and a running total of wins over time for all ten participating franchises—into a single cohesive analytical interface. Key findings include Gujarat Titans leading with 11 wins, a near-equal win-type split between Won by Runs (40 instances) and Won by Wickets (34 instances), and a counterintuitive toss impact where toss winners lost 54.05% of matches. The running total chart illustrates cumulative team performance trajectories across the season from March 27 to May 26, 2023. This work demonstrates how Tableau's interactive visualizations can transform raw sports data into actionable strategic insights for coaches, analysts, fans, and fantasy league participants.
