Abstract - The Airspeed Indicator (ASI) is one of the most important instruments used in aircraft for measuring the speed of airflow relative to the aircraft. Traditional ASI systems were primarily mechanical and pneumatic whereas modern aviation systems use digital avionics and electronic pressure sensors for more accurate measurements. This review paper focuses on the study and development of a low cost mock-up of Airspeed Indicator using Arduino UNO and pitot-static principles.
The proposed system uses a Pitot tube and MPXV7002DP differential pressure sensor to measure the pressure difference between dynamic pressure and static pressure. The Arduino UNO processes the sensor output and calculates airspeed using Bernoulli’s Principle. The measured airspeed is displayed in real time on a 16x2 LCD display.
This review paper discusses the evolution of airspeed indicators from mechanical systems to modern digital systems, the working principles of pitot-static systems, embedded system integration and the educational importance of the low cost aviation mock-up models. The paper also highlights the advantages, limitations, applications and future scope of the proposed system.
