Abstract-
Victim profiling is an important component of forensic psychology that focuses on understanding the behavioral, psychological, and situational characteristics of crime victims. It assists investigators in identifying victimization patterns, understanding offender target selection, reconstructing criminal events, and developing effective prevention strategies. This review paper examines the behavioral and psychological dimensions of victim profiling, its role in forensic investigations, major challenges, and emerging perspectives. The study is based on a review of secondary sources including scholarly articles, books, and research reports from the fields of forensic psychology, victimology, and criminology.

The findings indicate that factors such as lifestyle patterns, routine activities, trauma experiences, psychological vulnerabilities, and victim-offender relationships significantly influence victimization. The review also highlights challenges including victim blaming, ethical concerns, privacy issues, and cultural biases. Furthermore, emerging developments such as digital victimology, cybercrime research, artificial intelligence, and trauma-informed forensic practices are shaping the future of victim profiling. The study concludes that victim profiling is a valuable tool for understanding victimization and improving victim-centered approaches within the criminal justice system.
