Abstract
The stock market plays a vital role in economic development by facilitating capital formation, investment opportunities, and efficient allocation of financial resources. This study compares the performance of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) with respect to market capitalisation, trading volume, liquidity, investor participation, technological infrastructure, and operational efficiency. The research is based entirely on secondary data collected from NSE and BSE reports, SEBI publications, RBI reports, financial journals, and market databases. The findings indicate that while both exchanges contribute significantly to India's capital market, NSE demonstrates comparatively stronger trading activity, liquidity, and operational efficiency.
