Abstract - Food wastage has become a major issue because large quantities of edible food are discarded daily, while many people continue to suffer from hunger and food insecurity. This paper presents an Android-based Food Wastage Reduction System developed to improve surplus food redistribution through a centralised digital platform. The application connects donors, NGOs, volunteers, and recipients to make coordinating food donations, pickups, and deliveries easier. Firebase Firestore is used for real-time database synchronisation, while the Google Maps API supports hunger spot visualisation and route navigation.
The system also includes a TensorFlow Lite-based food expiry predictor, as well as a Gemini API-powered food safety analyser to provide a preliminary verdict on food freshness and safety before donation. Route optimisation using the Travelling Salesperson Problem (TSP) algorithm is applied when volunteers accept multiple pickup requests. The platform additionally supports delivery notifications, recipient order acceptance, and volunteer delivery status management. Overall, the system aims to reduce food waste, improve the efficiency of food redistribution, and support hunger relief through a practical, technology-driven solution.
