Abstract: This paper presents the design and implementation of an automatic street lighting system using an Arduino microcontroller and infrared (IR) sensors. The system aims to reduce energy consumption by automatically turning street lights ON or OFF based on the presence of vehicles or pedestrians. The IR sensor detects motion, and the Arduino processes the signal to control the lighting system. This method improves energy efficiency, reduces operational costs, and enhances smart city infrastructure. Experimental results demonstrate that the system effectively minimizes unnecessary power usage compared to conventional street lighting systems.
