Design and Implementation of an Arduino-Based Traffic Light Control System with Countdown Timer

ABSTRACT:Traffic congestion and road accidents are major challenges in modern transportation systems. Traffic light systems play an important role in controlling vehicle movement and ensuring road safety.This paper presents the design and implementation of a low-cost traffic light control system using Arduino UNO and a digital countdown timer display.The proposed system uses red, yellow, and green LEDs to simulate real traffic signals while a TM1637 four-digit display module shows the remaining countdown time for each signal phase. The system is designed for educational and prototype purposes to demonstrate embedded system concepts, automation logic, and microcontroller programming.Experimental results show that the system operates efficiently and accurately with low power consumption and simple hardware requirements.
