Abstract:
The FIFA World Cup is one of the most prestigious international football tournaments, generating a large volume of historical match data that can be analyzed to uncover meaningful performance trends. This study presents a visual analytics approach for exploring FIFA World Cup match results using Tableau. The dataset contains information on matches played between 1930 and 2014, including participating teams, goals scored, stadiums, host cities, and tournament stages. Data preparation techniques such as cleaning, classification of dimensions and measures, and creation of calculated fields were applied to improve analysis quality. Various visualizations, including bar charts, heat maps, highlight tables, and geographic maps, were developed to examine team performance, goal-scoring patterns, stadium- wise statistics, and home versus away team outcomes. The analysis reveals that countries such as Brazil and Germany have consistently demonstrated strong performances, while stadium characteristics and match conditions influence scoring trends. Interactive dashboards provide an effective platform for exploring historical football data and identifying significant patterns. The study demonstrates the usefulness of Tableau as a business intelligence tool for transforming complex sports datasets into meaningful insights that support data-driven sports analytics and decision-making.
