Abstract—The rapid growth of digital banking and online financial transactions has significantly increased the risk of fraudulent activities in the banking sector. Financial institutions face major challenges in identifying suspicious transactions while maintaining efficient and secure services for customers. To address this issue, this research presents a SQL-Based Banking Fraud Detection System designed to detect, monitor, and analyse potentially fraudulent banking transactions using databasedriven techniques.
The proposed system utilizes structured banking data, including customer information, account details, transaction records, and transaction history, to identify unusual patterns and suspicious activities. SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and database constraints are employed to analyse transaction behaviour and generate fraud alerts based on predefined rules and conditions. The system focuses on detecting common fraud scenarios such as unusually large transactions, multiple transactions within a short time period, transactions from suspicious locations, and abnormal account activities.
The proposed solution offers a cost-effective and scalable approach for banking fraud detection without requiring complex machine learning models. By leveraging the capabilities of SQL and database management systems, the framework enhances security, improves transaction monitoring, and supports decision-making processes in financial institutions. The research demonstrates that database-driven fraud detection techniques can play a vital role in reducing financial losses and strengthening trust in modern banking systems.
