Abstract
Women's political empowerment is a crucial component of democratic governance and inclusive development. Despite constitutional guarantees of equality, women in India have historically remained underrepresented in political institutions. Reservation policies, particularly in local self-government bodies, have emerged as an important mechanism for enhancing women's political participation. This article examines the impact of reservation policies on women's political empowerment in India, highlighting their achievements, challenges, and future prospects. It argues that political reservations have significantly increased women's representation, leadership capabilities, and participation in decision-making processes, although structural and socio-cultural barriers continue to limit their effectiveness.
