ABSTRACT:
In this study, the free radical co-polymerization of 4-phenyl phenyl methacrylate (4-PPMA) and butyl acrylate (BA) was investigated for the first time by solution free radical co-polymerization in ethyl methyl ketone at 90 oC using benzoyl peroxide as an initiator. The resulting polymers were analyzed by FT-IR, 13C- NMR, GPC, and DSC techniques. Thermal stability of the co-polymers were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy has been used for determining the co-polymer composition. The monomer reactivity ratios were estimated using Fineman - Ross (F-R) and Kelen Tüdös (K-T) method.
Keywords: monomer reactivity ratios, butyl acrylate, free radical co-polymerization, benzoyl peroxide.
