Machine Learning Approaches for Instagram Fake Profile Detection: A Review

Abstract

Social media platforms are growing fast and this has led to a big increase in fake profiles on these sites. This is a problem because it affects user privacy, cybersecurity, trust online and the honesty of digital marketing. One platform that is targeted a lot is Instagram. People use accounts on Instagram to send spam, steal identities spread false information and make fake promotions. So it is very important to find a way to detect these profiles. This is a challenge for people who work in machine learning and cybersecurity.

This review paper looks at how machine learning can be used to detect profiles on Instagram. It checks out techniques like Decision Trees and Neural Networks. The paper also talks about how important it's to choose the right features to look at when trying to detect fake profiles. These features can be based on the profile itself how the user behaves what they post and who they interact with. The paper reviews datasets that are available to the public how to measure the performance of algorithms and how they compare to each other. It also looks at the challenges that existing systems face like not having enough data and people constantly coming up with new ways to make fake accounts.

The paper explores ideas like using hybrid learning models and artificial intelligence that can explain itself. It finds that machine learning can be really effective in detecting profiles if it is used with good feature extraction and adaptive learning mechanisms. This study wants to help researchers and people who work in the field understand what is currently happening what the limitations are and where Instagram fake profile detection research is going in the future. The study of Instagram fake profile detection is important because Instagram is a platform and fake profiles are a big problem, on Instagram. Instagram fake profile detection is an area of research because it affects the safety and security of Instagram users
