Abstract - As the aviation sector proceeds towards its intelligent automation and smart airport operations, Ground Movement Safety (GMS) has become even more paramount. Although taxiing is considered a normal operation and is performed on a routine basis, it is still subject to a high number of accidents and incidents due to limited visibility of the Pilot, congested airport conditions, poor weather conditions, and increasing amounts of ground traffic in and around the airfield area. The Auto Brake system is designed to increase the overall level of aircraft safety while on the ground through an advanced autonomous braking and collision avoidance system to assist in ground operations. It utilizes multiple sensor technologies in order to constantly monitor the area around the aircraft for obstacles with the capability to also detect birds near the aircraft. Through the sensors fusion, Artificial Intelligence and predictive collision detection algorithms, the Auto Brake System is able to assess potential collision hazards and to apply brakes automatically as required for the prevention of accidents during taxiing operations. This system will reduce human workload and minimise human error making for safer airport operation surfaces and increase operational efficiency as well as benefit the future development of intelligent and autonomous ground systems for aircraft on the ground.

Key Words:  Autonomous Braking System, Aircraft Taxiing Safety, Collision Avoidance, Sensor Fusion, Artificial Intelligence, Predictive Collision Detection, ADS-B, Ground Movement Safety.
