Abstract
Parivartana Yoga is one of the most distinctive and structurally significant configurations in Vedic astrology. It occurs when two planets occupy each other's signs, forming a mutual exchange of rulership that binds their respective houses into a deeply interdependent relationship. This paper provides a comprehensive examination of Parivartana Yoga across its multiple dimensions: its conceptual foundations, structural formation, classification into Maha, Dainya, and Kahala types, Jupiter-based combinations, house-by-house interpretative analysis, and the more subtle phenomenon of Nakshatra Parivartana Yoga.
The study also presents three original case study analyses drawn from actual horoscopes, including a well-known historical chart, demonstrating how Parivartana Yoga operates at both the Rashi (sign) and Navamsa (D9) levels. A special section explores Nakshatra-level exchanges involving Rahu-Ketu, Mercury-Rahu, and Moon-Ketu, examining their karmic, psychological, and transformational implications. The paper argues that Parivartana Yoga functions not merely as a static placement indicator, but as a dynamic mechanism of transformation, redistributing planetary energies across the horoscope in ways that shape personality, destiny, and spiritual evolution.
