Abstract— Digital design methodologies have transitioned from manual processes to advanced Computer-Aided Design (CAD) environments. Reconfigurable computing seeks to bridge the gap between fixed hardware and flexible software, with Field- Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) serving as a primary enabler. This paper reviews the fundamental architecture, diverse applications, and inherent advantages of FPGAs. It examines the shift from traditional serial processing to FPGA-based massive parallel processing, evaluates development environments such as MATLAB and Java-based tools, and surveys recent literature regarding FPGA implementations in security, machine learning, and real-time systems.
Index Terms—FPGA, Reconfigurable Computing, Digital De- sign, Embedded Systems, Parallel Processing.
