ABSTRACT

Financial Technology (FinTech) has emerged as a revolutionary force in transforming the financial ecosystem across the world. In India, FinTech has played a significant role in promoting financial inclusion, especially in rural areas where access to banking and financial services has traditionally been limited. This research paper examines the role of FinTech in rural development, focusing on digital payments, mobile banking, microfinance, digital lending, and government-supported financial inclusion initiatives.

The study explores how FinTech solutions are helping rural populations gain access to banking services, credit facilities, insurance, and investment opportunities. It also highlights the contribution of technologies such as the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Aadhaar-enabled payment systems, mobile wallets, and digital banking platforms in reducing financial barriers. Furthermore, the research identifies major challenges including digital illiteracy, poor internet connectivity, cybersecurity concerns, and lack of awareness among rural citizens.

The research methodology is descriptive and analytical in nature, based on secondary data collected from journals, government reports, research articles, and online databases covering the period 2020–2025. The findings reveal that FinTech has significantly improved financial accessibility, enhanced transparency in transactions, encouraged entrepreneurship, and supported economic development in rural India. India's FinTech market is projected to reach USD 155.67 billion in 2025 and USD 990.45 billion by 2032, growing at a CAGR of 30.26%, underscoring the transformative scale of this sector.

The paper concludes that while FinTech has enormous potential to uplift rural economies, sustainable growth requires stronger digital infrastructure, awareness programmes, cybersecurity measures, and supportive government policies.
