Socio-Economic Characteristics and Challenges of Women Workers in the Textile Industry

Abstract-       The textile industry has historically been one of the largest employers of women, offering both formal and informal work opportunities across production, stitching, weaving, and garment finishing. This study investigates the socio-economic characteristics and challenges faced by female workers in the textile sector, focusing on their demographic profile, income levels, working conditions, and access to social security. Using stratified sampling and primary survey data, the research highlights the intersection of gender, economic vulnerability, and occupational hazards. Findings reveal that while women contribute significantly to productivity and sectoral growth, they often face wage disparities, limited upward mobility, and inadequate workplace safety. The study underscores the importance of understanding these socio-economic dimensions to design inclusive policies that enhance women’s participation and well-being in the textile industry.
