Abstract
Emotional branding has moved from marketing's soft periphery to its strategic center. What has changed is not whether emotion matters-it always has-but how systematically it is now deployed, measured, and scaled across digital advertising ecosystems. This chapter examines emotional branding as a strategic tool in contemporary advertising, working through the psychological foundations of emotional engagement, the mechanisms by which emotion transfers to brand trust and loyalty, and the empirical evidence linking emotionally resonant advertising to measurable purchase intentions. It traces how digital platforms have amplified both the reach and the trackability of emotional branding, while introducing new challenges around authenticity, consumer fatigue, and the tension between data-driven optimization and genuinely felt emotional connection. The chapter weighs what is gained-precision, scale, personalization-against what risks being lost: spontaneity, depth, the kind of emotional resonance that cannot be reverse-engineered from a conversion metric. It concludes with practical implications for brand managers navigating a landscape where emotional branding is both more powerful and more precarious than ever before.
